Thank You Patch Users for Helping Spread the News

 Thank you to the Patch users who have embraced Patch for what it is meant to be, a community platform and resource. Four users this weekend helped make Patch the place to find out all the breaking and local news in Peekskill and Cortlandt. We give special thanks to Leesther Brown, Sharon Irving, Carolyn Sherwin and Marlene Ball.

While we had some terrible news, these readers and users helped us get the important information out to the public and we are very appreciative of that. We hope everyone starts using Patch like these users – by updating articles, commenting, asking questions, contacting me with tips and concerns, and posting information on the site. If you see something happening, take a picture and email me or just . This is a place for the community to come together and communicate with each other.

On Friday night, when Henry McClellan, an 85-year-old Alzheimer’s the Peekskill police sent a missing persons alert, which we reported immediately. While the police pulled out all the stops to find McClellan, which they Patch users were spreading the word.

“That was a big help,” Peekskill Police Lieutenant Eric Johansen said.

A special thanks goes out to Leesther Brown for updating the Missing Persons story as soon as she heard the good news that McClellan was found, which was before we got a chance to update it. There were a lot of concerned people and we appreciate that Leesther let everyone know that McClellan was safe.

McLellan is doing fine. He was treated for exposure and lacerations at the Hudson Valley Hospital and is back home now, Johansen said.

On Friday afternoon, when a city worker and suffered serious head injuries, a lot of concerned Patch users who saw the traffic and emergency responders were emailing and asking about what happened. Thanks for letting us know about the accident so we could let other worried residents know what happened.

A special thanks goes to Marlene Ball who called as soon as she saw the commotion and took photos that helped show all the good Samaritans and emergency response support that rushed to the worker’s aid.  We wish we could have reported less terrible news that day. Unfortunately, the man is still at Westchester Medical Center being treated for serious head injuries, according to police. Our thoughts go out to him and his family.

Lastly, on Saturday, a at 1409 Main Street. Dozens of emergency responders rushed to put out the fire and protect the families living there. No one was injured and the fire departments managed to keep the fire from catching on to the neighboring buildings, which were very close to the blaze. 

Thank you to Carolyn Sherwin of the Red Cross for letting us know what happened and to Sharon Irving for generously sharing her many great photographs of our emergency responders hard at work battling the fire.
