Warm but Clouds, Support Father Higgins, Congrats to Veteran Hall of Famers

Five things you need to know today, Nov. 10.

1.    Support Father Higgins
Father John Higgins of the Assumption Church departed for New York City at 5:30 a.m. this morning, on foot. He is walking to St. Patrick’s Cathedral as a fundraising effort being undertaken by the Assumption School’s Advisory Board-- $105,000 for 105 Years of Assumption School (“105 for 105”).

2. Congrats to Local Veteran Hall of Fame Veterans
New York State Senator Greg Ball is hosting a 40th Senate District Veterans’ Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Nov. 10. Village of Buchanan resident Russ Harrison, Cortlandt resident, Retired Sergeant Squad Leader Frank L. Campanaro and Peekskill resident Duke Searles will be three of twenty-seven veterans inducted into the first class of inductees. The Ceremony will be held in the auditorium of the Putnam County Emergency Services Building, located at 112 Old Route 6, Carmel at 6:00p.m. 

3.    Veterans Day Ceremonies
Friday is Veterans Day, a time to celebrate peace, as it marks the end of World War 1. Peekskill will be honoring veterans with a ceremony at Monument Park at 10 a.m. Cortlandt will hold its Veterans Day ceremony at 12:30 p.m. at the Muriel H. Morabito Community Center.  Check Patch for coverage.

4.    Election Follow Up
As of Wednesday night, the Board of Elections had not reported the final results for the local and county elections. We will bring you the official totals as soon as they are released.

5.    Clouds Today, but Temperatures Stay Warm
The National Weather Service reports a chance of rain or drizzle before 7 a.m. and then a chance of showers after 7 a.m. with patchy fog before 10 a.m. The rest of the day should be cloudy with a high near 62. The nighttime low should be around 39 degrees.
