Pelham Students Advance To NY State National History Day Competition
Students from both Pelham Middle School and Pelham High school have advanced to the National History Competition in an array of topics.
From Pelham Middle School: Ten Pelham Middle School students and five students from PMHS have advanced to the New York State National History Day competition to be held on April 24.
Earlier this school year, 8th and 11th grade students created projects based on this year’s National History Day theme: “Taking a Stand in History.”
The students, working individually or in groups, conducted primary and secondary research to create an exhibit, historical paper, live performance, documentary or website about a specific historical event or person who either took a stand, or decided not to. Through their work, the students analyze and interpret their sources and draw conclusions about the significance of their chosen topic.

Members of Pelham’s grade 6-12 social studies department chose school winners, who then advanced to the regional competition. The students who placed either 1st or 2nd in their categories at the regional tournament now move on to states with the chance to then advance to the national competition.
