Briarcliff Polls Close at 9 p.m: Still Time to Vote

Update, 4:45 p.m.

As about 4:15 p.m. this afternoon, Village Clerk Christine Dennett reported approximately 215 voters had come out so far.

"Slow, but steady," she said at the Youth Center.

With four elected positions expiring this year, the Village of Briarcliff Manor is gearing up for its annual election.

The only contested race today will be for the seat of Mayor. Though the two candidates challenged each other's nominating petitions through the Westchester County Board of Elections, they ultimately will both appear on the ballot.

Current Mayor William Vescio, who has held the position for eight years, was nominated through the People's Caucus of Briarcliff Manor. Resident Laura Morris is also running as an independent candidate.

Current Deputy Mayor David Venditti is not seeking re-election this year, after a 10-year stint on the Board of Trustees.

Four-year Trustee Lori Sullivan is seeking re-election. Mark Wilson will also appear on the ballot as a trustee candidate. Both Sullivan and Wilson were nominated through the People's Caucus.

All village board positions are two-year terms.

Trustees Robert Murray and Mark Pohar were elected to the board last year.

Also appearing on Tuesday's ballot is Howard Code, who was nominated through the People's Caucus as a village justice candidate.

Current Village Justice Fred Weinstein has served in the position for 17 years and will not seek re-election this year.

The village justice position is a four-year term.

The village election will take place on Tuesday, March 19 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Youth Center. 

Absentee ballots can be downloaded here and must be submitted to the village clerk by Monday.
