Briarcliff Students Perform At The American Choral Directors Association

Singers from both Todd Elementary School and Briarcliff MS performed at the ACDA conference in MN during the month of March.

From Briarcliff MS: Several singers from Todd Elementary School and Briarcliff Middle School brought their talents to the annual American Choral Directors Association conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota this month.

“Each year, students are selected by audition to participate in one of the honor choirs that perform at the conference,” said Todd music teacher Wilma Messenger. “Music professionals – mostly school music teachers, college professors, composers and choral directors – along with college music majors attend the conference.”

Todd fifth-graders Allison Chu, Lily Hager, Natalie Lopez, Jillian Mauro and Tristan Rutman, along with middle school student Giovanni Culotta, had about three months to rehearse leading up to their performance with the Children’s Honor Choir.

“Students must master the extremely challenging songs in advance of the conference,” said Messenger. “At the conference, they perfected the songs under the leadership of a world-renowned choral director.”
