CSI in the Classroom at Briarcliff High School

Two comparison microscopes were provided through a Briarcliff Manor Education Foundation grant.

Two microscopes recently introduced into the Briarcliff High School science curriculum are giving students the opportunity to emulate practices they might see on popular television shows like CBS' CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

Last week, high school students demonstrated the use of the comparison microscopes in Dr. Robert Saar's classroom as part of the Briarcliff Manor Education Foundation (BMEF)'s first Grants in Action night of the school year.

The two apparatuses, at a price of $3,700, were part of the BMEF's 2012-13 grant cycle, during which more than $30,000 in grants were issued to various departments across the district's three schools.

Though the two microscopes, which allow users to compare two items—such as bullet casings or insects—simultaneously, just recently arrived in Dr. Saar's classroom, students are already excited about incorporating them into their biology and forensics classes.
