Henckels Makes Progress on Marble Avenue

"Henckel, the owner of the old MLA property on Marble Avenue, has made enormous progress in demolishing the building," Pleasantville Mayor Peter Scherer announced at Monday's Board of Trustees meeting. "It is mostly gone."

The former Medical Laboratory Associates (MLA) property was, until October of last year, owned by the Stop & Shop Company.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels, a currently Hawthorne-based cutlery manufacturer, plans to move its U.S. headquarters onto the Marble Avenue property.

"Originally, they had a proposal to raise the differing roofs to a common height," Scherer said. "That turned out to be technically difficult...they are knocking out a building and will rebuild on the same slab."

After seeing the property unused for more than 10 years, Scherer noted, "It has been a long time coming and I think all of us are excited not only to see the progress, but also to welcome Henckel as a linchpin of our commercial base."
