Lowey Praises Sandy Relief Support Vote
Congress voted 354 to 67 to authorize an increase in national flood insurance borrowing.

The House of Representatives voted Friday, 354-67, to pass an increase in borrowing authority for the national flood insurance program. This is considered the first installment of a Hurricane Sandy disaster aid package.
Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY), Ranking Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement on the vote.
“Today’s overwhelming vote to place the national flood insurance program on sound financial footing to pay claims of those who suffered devastating losses from Superstorm Sandy is a good first step. On January 15th, we must build on this success by passing the remainder of the robust assistance package that is needed for New York, New Jersey, and other states affected by Sandy. I will continue working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure the federal government fulfills its commitment to help families, businesses, and communities recover and rebuild.”
