Man Wanted for Sex Crime in Pleasantville in Custody

Police said a suspect in a 2011 assault and sexual abuse attack has been detained in Rhode Island.

A 30-year-old man wanted for almost a 2-year-old crime has been held in Rhode Island, according to the Pleasantville Police Department.

, Oswaldo Jacinto Ordonez is alleged to have followed a 28-year-old woman from a "local establishment," Chief of Police Richard Love said in a statement.

"The investigation has determined that the defendant choked the victim rendering her unconscious and then sexually abused her," he stated. "It is believed that the officers responding to calls of a women screaming, scared off the attacker which terminated the abuse."

Police believe Ordonez then left the village "and has been sought after since."

"On May 9, 2013 the Pleasantville police received a call from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement, I.C.E., from Rhode Island confirming they were in custody of our defendant," Love said.

Ordonez is expected to be returned to New York for prosecution within 10 days and charged with Assault in the Second Degree, a Class D Felony; and Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, a Class D Felony.

Months before the assault, Ordonez, then listed as a resident of Pleasantville, had appeared in Village Court on criminal mischief charges.
