Murder of Local Surgeon to be Featured on Investigation Discovery Friday

Dr. Joseph Kazigo was murdered in 2005 by his son Mulumba Kazigo, a Somers High School graduate.

A successful Westchester County surgeon, Dr. Joseph Kazigo, and his wife, Caroline, spent decades striving to earn their great reputation and upper-class lifestyle in Somers. 

But when family secrets are revealed, "their suburban paradise becomes a tangled web of fear and murder," according to Investigation Discovery which is featuring the homicide of Dr. Kazigo on their series "Blood Relatives" this Friday, April 12. 

The piece will run on Friday, April 12 at 9 p.m. and will include an interview with the man who murdered the doctor—his son Mulumba Kazigo.

The emergency room doctor Dr. Joseph Kazigo, who was 67 at the time of the murder in 2005, according to an article in The New York Times, was repeatedly struck with a blunt object by his son, then taken to a wooded area near the Muscoot reservoir in Lewisboro. That's where police discovered his body.

The man's son Mulumba Kazigo was 26 and lived in Lincolndale at the time. He also used to worked at Frankiln D. Roosevelt State Park in Yorktown.

At the time of the murder, Lincolndale neighbors told The New York Times that Dr. Kazigo as an avid jogger who came to the United States from Uganda. The paper reported, the doctor had seven children, including two who had joined the Army.

His son graduated from Somers High School in 1998, where he ran track, according to the high school yearbook, The New York Times reported. To read the entire article, click here.

Mulumba Kazigo is currently serving his sentence at Sing Sing Correctional Facility in Ossining. 

"Blood Relatives" on Investigation Discovery will also features interviews with detectives from the Nassau County Police Department who investigated the homicide and two of the reporters who covered the case.
