On Arbor Day, Pleasantville Dedicates Tree to Longtime Residents

A tree was planted at Roselle Park Friday in honor of Weskora Avenue residents Gordon and Dorothy Perry.

Gordon and Dorothy Perry were married at Holy Innocents Church in Pleasantville in 1942.

They have lived in the same Weskora Avenue home since 1952.

And on Friday, the couple received a send-off from the Village of Pleasantville while surrounded by family and friends at Roselle Park.

Dorothy Perry's daughter and grandchildren presented her with a Dogwood tree dedicated to her and Gordon and Dorothy, at 92, even helped shovel some dirt into the tree's new home.

Village Administrator Patricia Dwyer spoke during a ceremony about Arbor Day and the village's mission to make trees in the neighborhoods a priority.

Perry said she will most miss "my friends" when she leaves Pleasantville 71 years after her wedding ceremony down the road, but is looking forward to moving closer to one of her daughter's in Schenectady, NY.

"We are certainly going to miss you," Dwyer told Dorothy, "but I know we will stay in your heart."
