Pleasantville Train Station Improvements Begin Today

In a system-wide effort to "better maintain its stations," Metro North will begin a phase of its Enhancement Program beginning today in Pleasantville.

"This work will be begin in Crestwood and then moving to [North White Plains] NWP and another crew starting in Pleasantville and working south to Hawthorne, Mt Pleasant, and Valhalla," according to a MTA memo shared with the Pleasantville community. "Each enhanced station will take from between 30 to 60 days to complete depending on the extent and complexity of each station."

According to a story about the program on the MTA website, the effort came about through "Labor-management cooperation."

"Metro-North wants to be a good neighbor to the communities we serve," Metro-North President Howard Permut said in the statement. "We want to make sure our stations are an asset and a point of pride to all to use them."

According to Metro North, improvements in Pleasantville will include: 

1. Repaint all painted surfaces the new standard color (Historic Green)
2. Repaint or repair the ADA strips
3. Repaint the “Watch the Gap” stenciling
4. Repair/reseal platform expansion joints
5. Repair ROW fence
6. Repair edge board
7. Remove concrete benches and replace with black wire (new standard)
8. Replace all recycle containers
9. Replace all CID’s
10. Replace PID’s
11. Replace station identification signage
12. Replace directional signage
13. Repair gutters, leader pipes.
14. Inspect roof and spot repair as necessary.
15. Replace the scratchitti film on all windows (overpass and shelters) as necessary.
16. Replace windows damaged by graffiti acid as necessary.
17. Install or reinstall bird deterrent and power wash as necessary
18. Remove and clean all light fixture lenses
19. Upgrade lighting fixtures to high efficiency LED type
20. Repair or replace shelter/overpass heaters as required
21. Replace elevator floors as needed.
22.  E-Clean entire station including interior windows
23. Clean overpass and elevator tower exteriors
24. Minor landscaping such as grass cutting and trimming bushes
25. Exterminate station and ROW
26. Clean up Right of Way 500 feet in each direction
27.  Clean and repaint TVM equipment
28. Remove unnecessary and repair remaining newspaper boxes
