Probation Likely in False Gas Station Robbery Case

Wasim Ali, the man accused of filing a false robbery report with the Pleasantville Police Department in September, appeared in village court again yesterday.

The a 59-year-old village resident is charged with one count of Falsely Reporting an Incident in the Third Degree and Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree—both felonies.

On Tuesday, Westchester County Assistant District Attorney James Bavero told the court Ali has since repaid the owner of Century gas station/Pleasant Auto Service the more than $1,000 he allegedly took and remains employed at the Pleasantville Road business.

The day of the alleged incident, Ali told Patch he had been robbed at knifepoint while working alone at the gas station.

Bavero said Ali can plead guilty to one Class A Misdemeanor in satisfaction of both felony charges if the court imposes a probationary sentence.

Ali's Legal Aid Society of Westchester attorney asked if the DA would consider a conditional discharge sentence instead.

"The offer is probation," Bavero repeated.

Ali's attorney asked for an adjournment to discuss the offer with her client.

The case was then adjourned to Jan. 8, 2013 for all purposes.
