Valentine's Day Dining in Pleasantville-Briarcliff

Local restaurants and bakeries are preparing special menus and treats for the holiday.

Looking for the perfect way to treat your sweetheart on Valentine's Day? This year the holiday of love falls on Thursday, Feb. 14 and Pleasantville-Briarcliff Manor eateries are busy prepping goodies for the occasion:

Bistro 146 (495-3992) — The menu includes a choice of four appetizers—lobster ravioli, surf & turf sliders, yellowfin tuna ceviche or Bistro-baked oysters; a choice of four entrees—pan-seared black sea bass, grilled New Zealand lamb chops, 1-1½ stuffed Maine lobster or premium shellfish bouillabaisse. Non-alcoholic beverages are include. $55/person.

Flour & Sun Bakery (495-3232) — Valentine's Day cookies and cupcakes are available now. Some unique offerings include the cookie heart necklace ($5.50) and 'Bee Mine' cookies ($5). Cupcake treats include a 'Cupig' in chocolate or vanilla, an Aztec chocolate cupcake with chili-cinnamon chocolate pudding filled Ibarra Mexican chocolate swiss meringue frosting and a vanilla cupcake 'bouquet' that looks like roses ($30) Pre-order by Friday, Feb. 8.

Haven Restaurant (747-4646) — In addition to the regular menu, several special Valentine's Day items will be available next Thursday, including puree of white bean soup with truffled mushroom wonton, raw or roasted Oysters Rockefeller, lobster and ruby beet ravioli, jumbo lump crab empanadas, pan-seared yellowfin tuna with beluga lentils and blackberry soy, braised short ribs with whipped sweet potatoes and wild mushroom ragout, black bean 'meatballs' with soba noodles, sauteed spinach and pomodoro sauce and grilled tempeh with seasoned vegetables and ruby beet pudding.

Hudson at Haymount House (502-0080) — Dining at this Briarcliff Manor restuarant on Valentine's Day includes live music by the Vanessa Raci Band and a five-course prix-fixe menu. First course: shaved hearts of palm or king crab and caviar salad; second course: grilled red shrimp or Hudson Valley foie gras terrine; third course: celery gnocchi or braised beef shortrib ravioli; fourth course: veal breast roulade or roasted L.I. monkfish; fifth course: flourless dark chocolate gateau or honey-poached pear. $75/person; $39 wine pairing.

Iron Horse Grill (741-0717) — The menu offers a choice of five appetizers—arugula and endive salad, seafood salad, roasted sweet red pepper and ricotta ravioli, classic lobster bisque or hearts of butter lettuce salad; five entrees—fennel-crusted rack of lamb, cinnamon-rubbed breast of duck, broiled loin of George's Bank cod, grilled angus filet mignon or star anise glazed arctic char; and five desserts—passionfruit-blackberry tart with honey ice cream, chocolate marquis with pistachio-mint ice cream, coconut sorbet, 'Cupid's Target' (blood orange chiffon with chocolate ganache) or mocha dobos torte with espresso ice cream. The Westchester Chordsmen will be on-hand to serenade couples and each lady will be given a red rose. $70/person.

Jiki (762-4040) — Pastry Chef Minyoung Cho Yamaguchi is preparing several special desserts for Valentine's Day. There are a variety of chocolate truffles, including prune and dark chocolate ganache; passionfruit with milk chocolate, white chocolate and coconut and dark chocolate orange ($3.25/each). A mini heart-shaped "143" cake is topped with a raspberry and filled with crème brûlée ($4.75) and flavored marshmallow sweets come in peach and lychee flavors ($3.50/bag) are also available just for Valentine's Day.

Terra Rustica (923-8300) — There will be both a special Valentine's Day lunch menu (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and dinner menu (3 to 10 p.m.). The dinner menu includes an appetizer, salad and main course.

Unique Affair Catering (769-5010) — A special Sweetheart Brunch at the Pleasantville Country Club is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The meal includes a morning breakfast basket with croissants, scones and more, a fruit display basket, Nova smoked salmon, Challah French toast, eggs benedict, Belgium waffles, an omlette station and a carving station. Main course selections range from eggplant rollatini to chicken francaise and mozzarella caprese. A selection of desserts and a chocolate fountain will also be available. Includes a complimentary mimosa or Bloody Mary and coffee and tea. $36.95/adult and half price for children under 12.
