Instructor Mike Evans invites participants to step into the role of ancient scribes by crafting their own reed pens and natural ink using plant-based materials, all while exploring how ancient writing evolved from the land itself. This workshop blends history, artistry, and reflection—perfect for those who enjoy tactile creativity with a story-rich context.
This program is for adults and youth 12+.

residence of Howard Gould (1912-1917) and later Daniel and Florence 
Guggenheim (1917-1930).
PLEASE NOTE:
<ul><li>Hempstead House tours are designed for adults, but children 5+ are allowed. Children under 5 will not be permitted.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Tours are $10 per person, payable at the Welcome Center. Tickets are available for purchase day-of only – advance ticket sales are not available.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Tours run approximately 45 minutes.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Pets are not allowed inside the mansion; service dogs are permitted</li></ul>
<ul><li>Entrance to the Preserve is free for Conservancy members; $15 per car for non-members.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Photography is allowed.</li></ul>

During&nbsp;this engaging, hands-on STEAM Workshop, young engineers design and build their own Art Bot to explore the fundamentals of robotics. Children construct a simple circuit and observe how the small motor powers their Art Bot to move and draw. This fun engineering project introduces basic concepts of robotics, electricity, and motion, demonstrating the interplay between science and art.

While school is out, join the clever young scientist–turned–superhero Ninja Née as she unravels the mystery of strange flashes of light coming from the old clock tower at the Preserve!
In this hands-on STEM adventure, led by instructor Mike Evans, kids become part of the story—experimenting with mirrors, secret light codes, and even drawing their own working electric circuits to help save the day from the mischievous Dr. Chaos.

In this talk, medical anthropologist Dr. Konstantinos Mountrakis of the NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine will explore the history of anatomical donation in the United States, its role in training future healthcare providers, and how donation is understood by donors and their families.
The presentation will address both commonly discussed motivations and less frequently acknowledged concerns, including religious, familial, and emotional considerations. Emphasizing transparency and respect, the speakers aim to foster informed community dialogue around posthumous contribution to medical education.

Take the first step and learn how to dance today!
Discover the joy of ballroom dance in a fun, relaxed setting at the Sands Point Preserve! Join us for an introductory class led by Donatas Nacajus of Ballroom Boutique, and take your first steps on the dance floor with confidence and style.
The aim of the classes is to teach you how to move to the music, as well as the passion and character of dance. You can sign up for one class or all three!
Experience is not needed, no partner required and the classes are open to all ages.
Mondays: January 26, February 2, and February 9, 2026 7pm – 8pm
Prices:&nbsp;(includes processing fees and parking)
One class: $29 Series of 3 classes: $66

Donatas Nacajus Born in Lithuania, Donatas has been dancing since he was seven years old and has not stopped since. In his youth, he competed and won numerous dance competitions around the world, including the National Dance Sport Championship (twice). In 1998, he represented the Lithuanian National Dance Team’s World Youth Division Dance Sport Championship held in Russia.
Donatas graduated from the Academy of Physical Education in the fields of Ballroom &amp; Latin Dance as well as Physical Education. He studied under legendary instructors like Michael and Vicky Barrs, Richard Gleave, Janet Gleave and many others.
