10 Arrested In New Crackdown Against Trespassing On Train Tracks: PD

Since 2020, there have been 61 train versus pedestrian accidents in Suffolk County, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — Police recently engaged in a crackdown on people trespassing on railroad tracks in Riverhead, officials said.

Since 2020, there have been 61 train versus pedestrian accidents in Suffolk County, including several in Riverhead, officials said.

"While being very dangerous to walk on the tracks, it is also illegal in New York State," police said.

To that end, Riverhead Town worked in tandem with the MTA Police to conduct extra patrols of the railroad track and crossings earlier this month, officials said.

Officers from the MTA Hybrid Threat Unit and MTA Right-of-Way Task Force worked with members of the Riverhead Cope Unit on March 5, walking along numerous tracks in the Riverhead area, police said.

Officers arrested 10 people who were trespassing on the tracks, police said. Those arrested and charged with third-degree criminal trespassing included, police said:

Felino Vasquez, 34, undomiciled

Edwin Tocay Camey, 31, undomiciled

Jose Eduard Zaldivar Franco, 22, Yaphank

James Licausi, 55, Riverhead

Diego Torres, 61, Riverhead

Mario Camey-Raza, 44, undomiciled

Jennifer Sulzer, 49, Calverton

Noe Gonzalez-Tocay, 42, Islip Terrace

Edwin Rivera, 33, Riverhead

Edvin Dubondubon, 42, Riverhead

Felin Vasquez and Diego Torres also had arrest warrants from Riverhead Justice Court, police said.

"The Riverhead Police and MTA Police will continue to conduct future operations on the railroad tracks," police said.
