2 Pedestrians Struck By SUV On LI, 1 Dies: Police

The 2 people were hit at the same time while on the Riverhead road; 1 woman died, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — One pedestrian died and another was injured after both were hit by an SUV in Riverhead Thursday night, police said.

According to Riverhead Town police, the crash took place at 8:56 p.m. on Old Country Road, in the vicinity of the Gulf gas station and the Residence Inn Long Island East End; the pedestrians were struck while in the eastbound lane, police said.

A 2009 Nissan Rogue driven by a woman, 46, struck the two pedestrians, Denise Wack, 37, and Lawrence Pressley, 37; both were without a known address, police said.

Wack was transported by ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center, where she was treated for numerous injuries but subsequently died, police said. Pressley was also transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center via ambulance for treatment of what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The Riverhead Police Department's detective division and the New York State Police Department's forensic investigation unit responded to assist in the investigation, police said.
