2 Riding Motorcycle Injured In Calverton Crash Saturday: Police

1 person was airlifted with serious injuries, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — Two people riding on a motorcycle were injured in a Calverton crash Saturday, police said.

According to Riverhead Town police, the crash between the motorcycle and another vehicle took place on Edwards Avenue at about 11:27 a.m.

Responding officers found a male and female who had been riding the motorcycle lying in the roadway with multiple injuries, police said.

Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded; the male was treated at the scene and transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, police said. The female was treated and subsequently air-lifted by Suffolk County Police aviation and flown to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious physical injuries, police said.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured, police said.

An investigation determined that the driver of the vehicle had been heading northbound on Edwards Avenue and was attempting to make a left turn in to Cousins Paintball when they collided with the motorcycle, which was heading southbound, police said.

The New York State Police accident reconstruction team responded to assist in the investigation, police said.
