2 Residents Injured In Early-Morning Calverton House Fire: FD
50 firefighters tackled the blaze, which engulfed the home in flames — with 5 family members escaping, officials say.

CALVERTON, NY — Two people were injured in a Calverton house fire early Friday, officials said.
The Riverhead Fire Department said they were activated at about 3:41 a.m. for a structure fire on Middle Road. When firefighters arrived, they found the two-story home engulfed in flames, officials said.
According to Riverhead Town police, the house was occupied: Five family members escaped; two were taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of smoke inhalation, police said.

The first arriving fire chiefs immediately requested mutual aid from the surrounding area to assist in extinguishing the blaze, officials said.
The fire was extinguished by about 50 firefighters from the Riverhead Fire Department, along with four fire engines, two ladder trucks, one water tanker and two support vehicles, officials said.

The Riverhead Town fire marshal's office was notified and requested at the scene, officials said.
Mutual aid companies that responded to assist in fighting the fire included the Jamesport, Manorville, and Wading River Fire Departments. The Flanders Fire Department was on stand by in the Riverhead Fire Department Headquarters and handled two additional calls for service in Riverhead.
The Riverhead Town Volunteer Ambulance Corps., Flanders Northampton Volunteer Ambulance, Manorville Ambulance and Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance companies were requested and responded to the scene, officials said.
The Mattituck Fire Department ambulance responded to the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance headquarters to stand by for Riverhead, officials said.
The fire was declared under control at 5:10 a.m. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Riverhead Town fire marshal's Office, the Riverhead Town Police Department's detective squad and the Suffolk County Police arson squad.
