Greenport Man Drove Drunk With 3 Kids In Car, Fled Crash: Police
The children were 1, 9, and 10 years old, police say; the crash took place in Riverhead.
RIVERHEAD, NY — A Greenport man was arrested and charged after he crashed his vehicle and fled the scene with three children in his car Saturday, police said.
According to Riverhead Town police, a call came in at 8:08 p.m. regarding a crash on Old Country Road involving a white Honda Civic; the driver left the scene heading east, police said.
Police responded and found the vehicle on Old Country Road with the driver, Juan L. Arevalo-Lopez, 22, intoxicated and his daughter, 1, and two boys, 9 and 10 years old, inside the vehicle, authorities said.

He was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, a felony under Leandra's Law; three counts of endangering the welfare of a child; and leaving the scene of a crash, police said. He was processed at Riverhead police headquarters and held overnight for morning arraignment, police said.
