Kayaker Saved In 2nd Dramatic Rescue At LI Beach In 1 Day: WATCH

RIVERHEAD, NY — In the second dramatic rescue at a Riverhead beach in one day, a kayaker was saved from the Long Island Sound Sunday evening, police said.
According to Riverhead Town police, the incident took place at 5:43 p.m. off Reeves Beach when a man called 911 and said he could not locate his friend, who had been on a kayak.
Riverhead police and the Suffolk County Police Department's aviation unit were able to locate the overturned kayak, with a man in a life jacket in the water nearby, about a mile north of Reeves Beach, police said.

With the help of the Riverhead Police Department's marine unit and the Riverhead Volunteer Fire Department, the man, 34, was brought safely ashore, police said.

The man, who had been in the water for about an hour and a half, was taken by the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of hypothermia, police said.
Earlier on Sunday, five people out fishing on a raft were also saved off Reeves Beach, police said.
