LI Woman Dies After Jumping In River To Save Her Dog: Police
The dog was rescued but the woman died, police say.
OAKDALE, NY — A Babylon woman died after jumping in the Connetquot River to save her dog early Sunday, police said.
According to Suffolk County police, at 8:07 a.m., an employee of the Oakdale Yacht Club, located on Shore Drive, called 911 after observing a woman in the Connetquot River. The woman, Catherine Andreau, 62, was pulled from the water and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
An investigation revealed that Andreau, who was staying on a houseboat, jumped into the water at 1:30 a.m. to rescue her dog, who had jumped in, police said.

The dog was rescued and transported to a local veterinarian, police said.
Andreau's body was transported to the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner to determine an official cause of death, police said.
