Man Working On Tree In Wading River Falls 40 Feet: Police

The support rope attached to the man snapped, plunging him from the second story deck and then, onto the ground in Wading River, police say.

WADING RIVER, NY — A man fell 40 feet out of a tree in Wading River Monday, police said.

According to Riverhead Town police, at about 1:10 p.m., the Riverhead Police Department and the Wading River Fire Department responded to a report of a man who had been injured after falling from the tree.

The man, 35, was working for Raymond Brothers Tree Service, taking down a tree above a second story deck, when the support rope attached to the man snapped and he fell, landing on the railing of the deck and then onto the ground below, police said.

He was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital via the Suffolk County aviation due to his serious physical injuries, police said.

The Riverhead Police Department's detective division was notified and responded to further the investigation, police said. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was also contacted to assist in the investigation, police said.

The man was in stable condition Monday and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
