Motorcyclist, 18, Dies After Crash With Truck, Car On LI: PD

The fatal crash took place in Riverhead Tuesday afternoon, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — An 18-year-old died after a Riverhead crash Tuesday afternoon, police said.

According to Riverhead Town police, the crash took place at 2:22 p.m. on Center Drive. While starting from a stop at a red light, a northbound 2022 Kenworth commercial truck traveling on Center Drive, just south of West Main Street, was involved in a collision with a 2022 Honda motorcycle and a 2017 Honda sedan, police said.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the motorcycle changed lanes and stopped in close proximity to the front of the truck shortly before the traffic light turned green and the truck began moving north, police said.

The driver of the 2017 Honda sedan, who had been attempting to follow behind the motorcycle, was also involved in the collision, police said.

The operator of the motorcycle, Aiden J. Lomelle, 18, from Whitestone, NY, was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

The driver of the truck and the driver of the sedan were uninjured, police said.

The crash appears to be non-criminal in nature, police said.

The Riverhead Police Department's detective squad, the New York State Police Department's accident reconstruction team, and the New York State Police Department's motor carrier unit are investigating the crash, police said.
