An opening reception for East Hampton artist William King is being held on Thursday at 's Lyceum Gallery.
"William King: Inside the Artist's Studio" has been on display since March 5 and will remain through April 6. Thursday's reception will run from 4 to 6 p.m. to recognize the work of the 87-year-old East Hampton sculptor, with light refreshments being served.
According to a recent New York Times article, King's fascination with sculpting began as a youth in southern Florida, sculpting coral in Coconut Grove.

The article quotes King as saying, "“I started sculpting by whittling coral rock in the backyard. I used a screwdriver for a chisel and a claw hammer for a mallet.”
His works have since appeared at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Guggenheim Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
