Popular Calverton Deli Burglarized: Police

CALVERTON, NY — A popular Calverton deli was burglarized early Monday, police said.

According to Riverhead Town police, at 6 a.m., officers responded to the report of a possible break-in at the Wine Country Deli, located on Middle Country Road.

The owner of the location arrived at work to find that a front, east side window of the establishment was broken, police said. The owner reported that $325 in assorted U.S. currency was missing from the cash register, police said.

Surveillance footage revealed that at about 1:53 a.m., an unknown male with a thin build, wearing blue jeans, a black shirt, black sneakers, a mask and gloves entered the location and immediately removed the currency before fleeing the area on foot, police said.
