Here are the top stories today in Riverhead:
- See the latest pets available for adoption at Riverhead area shelters. A great place to start the search is at Bideawee, where Charley the puppy is waiting patiently. If you aren't sure if you have time to take care of a pet year-round, many shelters also offer opportunities to foster pets until they are placed. (Riverhead Patch)
- Who's hiring in the Riverhead area? There are many high paying jobs listed, even if you are looking for part-time work, it's all there in Patch. So, what are you waiting for? (Riverhead Patch)
- Fire broke out in front of the Riverhead Home Depot on Monday. Fire sent smoke and flames billowing outside the building, leaving the front of the façade visibly damaged. Firefighters were able to put out the fire with shoppers still inside, those on the scene said. It was not immediately clear if there were any injuries reported. (Riverhead Patch)
- On May 14, from noon to 10 p.m., the Mayday Music Festival comes to Southaven County Park in Yaphank. The event will feature music, a diverse assortment of food trucks, craft beers and Long Island wines. Proceeds go to fund charitable causes such as scholarships for union members and their families, promoting union organizing and activism, and supporting Long Island Cares: The Harry Chapin Food Bank.
