- What's the plan for Riverhead's $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative grant? Public meetings take place Monday. Here are three of the largest projects planned, they include $4.5 million for site improvements and amenities for the town square project, $4.8 million to implement floodplain mitigation projects downtown and $4.5 million to offset the cost of construction for a public parking garage near the Long Island Rail Road. The town has also adopted a Transit-Oriented Development plan for the Railroad Avenue area and established an overlay zone providing increased development density and additional permitted uses to incentivize redevelopment in the blighted area. - Motorcycle clubs hold fundraiser for Selden man with cancer to pay his medical bills and give money towards cancer research. - New walking tour highlights the fierce and fearless women of Stony Brook Village. On Thursday, March 24 at 10:30 a.m. and again at 3:30 p.m. the Ward Melville Heritage Organization will present a walking tour titled “Against the Grain” featuring newly uncovered stories of Stony Brook Village women. Tours will leave from the Stony Brook Grist Mill at 100 Harbor Road at 10:30 a.m. and again at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person, and includes a dessert (with the purchase of an entrée) at Mirabelle Restaurant and Tavern. - 'Andrew's Top Gun Run' Honors Boy Scout Killed By Drunk Driver: March 30 would have marked Andrew McMorris' 16th birthday. If life were different, his family would have spent the day celebrating, likely on a trip, as their beloved boy loved travel — or just spending time with family and friends, with lots of music and laughter. Undoubtedly, the day would have had some mention of aviation: Andrew wanted to become a pilot, dreamed of soaring high in the blue sky. But Andrew will never celebrate his 16th birthday: He died when he was 12 years old, after he was struck by a drunk driver who plowed into his Boy Scout troop while they were out on a hike in Manorville in 2018.
