Here are the top stories today in Riverhead:
- Three incidents at Riverhead High School in recent days that include two students revived by Narcan and another who felt ill after ingesting an edible appear "unrelated" and not related to opioids or fentanyl, Riverhead Police Chief David Hegermiller said Tuesday. "This is not a crisis," Hegermiller told Patch. He said that just because Narcan was administered it "doesn't mean that there was an opioid overdose." Also, he said, as far as the investigation indicates so far, "it appears all" the incidents were "not caused by opioids or fentanyl." (Riverhead Patch)
- Riverhead area real estate roundup. Let Patch and Redfin.com be your go-to source for all the latest listings and upcoming open houses in and around Riverhead. (Riverhead Patch)
- There is nothing like the smell of fresh coffee, especially if it is in a library. The Center Moriches Free Public Library now hosts Hampton Coffee Co. café where you can now check out hot and iced beverages, such fresh baked goods as muffins and croissants, breakfast and lunch sandwiches, and soups of the day. “The goal was to bring other people into the library who normally wouldn’t come and utilize the space here,” Marcie Litjens, the library’s director, said. “It’s welcoming and inviting, and nothing goes better with books than a cup of coffee.” (Greater Long Island)
- Earth Brands, a biodegradable cup company, was started by a Long Island college student and his friend. After sending billionaire Mark Cuban 50 cups to sample, the deal was struck. Cuban and a Wall Street private equity firm invested $1.75 million in the company. The cups are made from corn-based polymers, that would break down in 90 days when industrially composted.
