1. Riverhead area adoptable pets of the week: Meet Panda, Kiki."Poor Panda was discarded like trash when his owners picked up and moved. He was so sweet and gentle we only had to pick him up and bring him to our shelter," wrote shelter staff. "Kiki was rescued from a colony behind a house where the owners refused to get the feral cats that lived there spayed or neutered. Kiki is one of the babies and she is an absolute sweetheart!" wrote shelter staff. Whether you're looking for cuddles or companionship, one of these animals could be the perfect fit for your family. Jefferson Murphree, Riverhead Town’s chief planner, said he’s never personally experienced the heavy traffic on Sound Avenue on a fall weekend — and doesn’t want to, is leading the town’s comprehensive plan update. “I have not come to your beaches during the summer,” Murphree added. Planners have to “glean” information about communities from “the residents who actually live there.” Jamesport resident and civic association secretary Joan Cear challenged Murphree and the planning consultants to do a better job of gathering information by spending time in the communities. 5. The next meeting of the Mental Health Subcommittee will be on March 2 from 3-4:30 p.m., via Zoom. According to the press release, "The Mental Health Subcommittee of the Community Mental Hygiene Advisory Board is made up of consumers, parents, advocates, professionals and agency providers who consider mental health issues and advise the director of Community Mental Hygiene Services as necessary through the advisory board.
