Here are the top stories today in Riverhead:
- Riverhead's pet dealers' law, which would ban the sale of commercially bred dogs, cats and rabbits by retail pet dealers in Riverhead, remains suspended as lawsuits challenging it continue. The law would have taken effect Jan. 1 but remains suspended by a temporary restraining order issued by a judge in November. (RiverheadLOCAL)
- A man "violently resisted" arrest In Riverhead Thursday, police said. The homeless man was also charged with two unrelated robberies, police said. (Riverhead Patch)
- A new police lieutenant was sworn in during Tuesday’s town board meeting. Lt. Jonathan Devereaux took the oath, administered by Riverhead Town Supervisor Yvette Aguiar, as his family members looked on. Following the oath, his mother pinned his lieutenant badge on his uniform. (RiverheadLOCAL)
- If you haven't visited the Long Island Science Center in Riverhead, you are missing out on experimenting and using your imagination, as every exhibit is interactive! Exhibits include learning how to fly a drone, see the very first video game created, learn about Leonardo da Vinci using AR. This hands-on learning center is located at the Tanger Outlets in Riverhead. (News 12 Westchester)
- A collection drive for the people of Ukraine is being held this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Westhampton Beach Fire Department, located at 92 Sunset Ave., Westhampton Beach. Items needed include new or lightly used clothing, personal hygiene items, diapers, toiletries, and first aid medical supplies. Everything collected that day will be handed over to the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Riverhead, which will arrange for transport to Ukraine. (Patch)
