Here are the top stories today in Riverhead:
- The suddenly popular town of Riverhead. Could it be that the price of homes on either fork are so high that Riverhead has been giving people a reason to hang around? “Or has it just become more desirable because of its location,” Beth Anne Pike, a real estate agent asked. Riverhead is known for its farms, beaches, orchards, paddocks, golf courses, big-box stores, water park, raceway and vineyards. (The New York Times)
- How to spend $10 million? The Riverhead Town and New York State have scheduled three forums to hear the public’s input on how to spend Riverhead’s $10 million downtown revitalization initiative grant. The meetings are scheduled for March 21 at Town Hall, May 23 at the Suffolk Theater, and July 1 at either Grangebel Park or the Town Square site, according to a press release from the town supervisor’s office. Each meeting will start at 6 p.m. Residents are encouraged to participate in-person and breakout sessions on particular interests will be held during the meeting. A virtual option to participate will also be available, the press release states. (Riverhead News Review)
- If you love Mediterranean cuisine, then Turkuaz Grill (40 McDermott Ave., Riverhead) is an easy pick. “It’s traditional Turkish,” said owner Mustafa Gulsen. One of the five most popular items on the Turkuaz menu, is lamb. The lamb gyro is thinly sliced and marinated on a vertical rotating skewer. Yum! (Northforker)
- 50th Jubilee is planned for school celebrating Polish traditions. Saint Maksymilian Kolbe Polish School in Riverhead, a school dedicated to teaching young Polish children their ancestors deeply-rooted traditions and customs, is set to celebrate 50 years — and fundraising efforts are underway for a 50th Jubilee. A GoFundMe page, "Funding 50th Jubilee at Polish School," in advance of the school's 50th anniversary in October. (Riverhead Patch)
