Here are the top stories today in Riverhead:

  1. The board hearing held Thursday night on the site plan application filed by Niosi Firearms for "changes to a vacant commercial building on Elton Street" was adjourned at the request of the applicant. What was presented to the board was an indoor firing range, not firearms sales and rentals at the site. Residents attended the hearing in droves to speak out against the plan. (RiverheadLOCAL)
  2. According to Riverhead Town police, "a 15-year-old Riverhead High School student was arrested Thursday after he threatened violence against faculty and students for the second day in a row, police said." The teen is being held at the Nassau County juvenile detention facility until his arraignment at Suffolk County Superior Court, Youth Part, police said. (Riverhead Patch)
  3. St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Riverhead is continuing to ship supplies, "roughly 300 pounds of donations a week," to Ukraine. The large Riverhead Ukraine community has relatives still living in Ukraine and they have not given up on helping them survive the war. (RiverheadLOCAL via Instagram)
  4. Two Riverhead men, Marquis Douglas, 36, and Jesse Pace, 38, were charged for distributing drugs, including fentanyl, that led to the deaths of four people on the North Fork last August, federal officials said. (North Fork Patch)
  5. Sonic drive-in restaurant may be planning for an "unimproved property in Riverhead on Old Country Road, across from Apple Honda." The developer is looking for approval to "develop the vacant commercial land with a 2,283-sq-ft drive-in restaurant." If it sounds like Sonic, and it looks like Sonic on paper, well, it just may be a Sonic the developer is hoping for. (LongIsland.com)
