BALDWIN, NY — A new apartment complex could be built in Baldwin. The first step was announced on Thursday by the Town of Hempstead Industrial Development Agency.

The agency approved a due diligence resolution to investigate tax benefits for Baldwin Jaz, an affiliate of Garden City-based Breslin Reality.

The developer is proposing a 215-apartment complex sitting on 1.8 acres at the southeast corner of Grand Avenue and Sunrise Highway, across from the LIRR station.

Before gaining final approval, the developer will file an application with the IDA, and undergo a further review and a public hearing.

Baldwin Jaz intends to demolish a lot that has been used for car storage on the site and replace it with a 59,342-square-foot five-story building, according to the IDA.
