18-Year-Old in Critical Condition After LI Crash; Driver Arrested
Police say a 21-year-old man was high on drugs at the time of the crash, which critically wounded his passenger Sunday afternoon.

SHIRLEY, NY –An 18-year-old woman was critically injured in a single-car crash on Long Island Sunday afternoon and police say the man driving the car was high on drugs at the time.
According to Suffolk Police, 21-year-old Dayvonte Booker was driving a 2007 Acura south on River Road in Shirley when the car struck a tree at about 2:40 p.m.
Kaneya Giles, of Mastic Beach, a passenger in Booker’s car was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where she was listed in critical condition.

Booker, of Shirley, was not injured. Seventh Squad detectives charged Booker with driving while ability impaired by drugs. Police did not say what drug Booker is alleged to have been on. Booker will be held overnight at the Seventh Precinct and is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Monday.
