2-Year-Old Dies After Being Found Unresponsive In Ridge Pool: Police

He was found unresponsive in a backyard pool on Aug. 8, authorities say.

RIDGE, NY – The two-year-old boy found unresponsive in an in-ground pool in the backyard of a Ridge home earlier this month died Aug. 10, Suffolk police said Friday.

The boy was discovered at a home on Cross Road at around 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 8, according to police.

Ridge Fire Department Chief Wesley Phillips said the department's members arrived at the house "in minutes," and the ambulance had a police escort to the hospital.

The boy was at first taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead and then transferred to Cohen Children's Medical Center in New Hyde Park, police said.

The investigation is continuing, according to police.

A police spokeswoman could not clarify why a news release was not sent out after the incident, nor the public updated on the child's death.

A spokesperson previously said that police would provide an update in the event there was a death involved.

A second child that was found unresponsive in an East Moriches pool died on Thursday.
