Arrest In Year-Old Robbery At Family Dollar In Shirley: Police

Police say the man passed a note indicating he had a gun, and made off with some cash.

SHIRLEY, NY — A Rocky Point man has been charged in connection with the robbery of Family Dollar in Shirley last year, Suffolk police said Tuesday.

Patrick Higgins, 57, was arrested on Feb. 12 and charged with first-degree robbery, according to police.

On March 6, 2024, Higgins went inside the discount store, which is in The Green, and passed a note stating that he had a gun, though none was seen, police said, adding that he demanded cash from the clerk before bolting with some cash.

Higgins pleaded not guilty and a temporary order of protection was issued at his arraignment in First District Court in Central Islip on Feb. 13, online court records show.

His bail was set at $10,000, $20,000 insured bond, and $100,000 partially secured surety bond, according to the records.

He remained in custody as of Tuesday afternoon, a spokeswoman for the Suffolk County Sheriff's office said.

His attorney, Christopher Gioe of Hauppauge, could not be immediately reached for comment.
