The Blizzard Is Coming: Dairy Queen Aims For Mid-September Opening

The popular mid-western burger and shake franchise will have both dine-in and drive-in options at its planned Mastic location.

MASTIC, NY — The Blizzard will be here sooner than you think.

Now that the ground has been broken on Long Island's newest Dairy Queen in Mastic, the aim is to have it open in mid-September, a company spokeswoman said Friday afternoon.

The restaurant, which the second of its kind in the Town of Brookhaven, is planned for both dine-in and a drive-thru options. It will be located on the east side of Carpet Express on Montauk Highway.

Brookhaven Town Councilman Dan Panico announced the location was in the works in a Facebook update to his constituents in the 6th Council District back in January, captioning a photo of the popular ice cream treat, the Blizzard, saying, "blizzards are coming to our area."

The popular franchise is best known for its tasty burgers, fries, and cheese curds - not to mention its ice cream treats, which include not only Blizzards, but also shakes and signature cakes. The first Dairy Queen opened in 1940 in Joliet, IL.
