Boy, 16, Pleads Guilty In 'Shocking' Rape, Stabbing Of LI Mom In Home Invasion: DA

The 23-year-old mom will be spared from reliving the "horrible crime," which was before her 4-year-old daughter's eyes, DA says.

RIVERSIDE, NY — A 16-year-old boy has pleaded guilty in connection with the rape and stabbing of a mom in front of her young child in a vicious attack in Mastic Beach in 2022, Suffolk District Attorney Ray Tierney said Tuesday.

He pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree rape, assault, and burglary, as well as one count of endangering the welfare of a child in Criminal Court in Riverside.

The teen's name was not released.

“The fact that this defendant was 14 years old when he violently raped and stabbed a mother in front of her own child in her own home remains shocking, to say the least,” Tierney said.

“Thankfully, with this plea, the victim will be spared from reliving this horrible crime at trial.”

The teen and an accomplice broke into a home after waiting for one of its residents to drive away at around 3:15 p.m. on April 19, 2022, prosecutors said.

While inside the house looking for items to swipe, the two found a locked bedroom door and kicked it in to gain entry, finding the 23-year-old mother and her four-year-old daughter, according to prosecutors.

The teen took the mom’s cell phone and made her open it with the passcode, and then, as his accomplice went through the bedroom looking for property to steal, he sexually assaulted and strangled her in front of her child, prosecutors said.

After some time, she was forced into the hallway, where the sexual assault continued, and he pulled out a switchblade, showed it to her, and slashed her across her head and forehead, according to prosecutors. He then stabbed her in her left upper chest area, twisting the blade inside of her, prosecutors said.

She was treated at a local hospital where she received stitches and staples to her head and face, stitching to her chest area, and other medical treatment, according to prosecutors.

The defendant admitted taking part in the burglary of the woman’s home while he was being interviewed on that charge by the police, Tierney's office said, adding that he consented to a swab of his mouth.

Suffolk's Crime Laboratory matched the DNA profile developed from his swab to a profile developed from a swab of the woman, Tierney's office said.

He is expected to be sentenced to three to nine years in prison at his sentencing.

The maximum term of incarceration was three and one-third to 10 years in prison, given the teen's age at the time of the crime.

Now a registered sex offender, he was remanded without bail and remains in custody as he awaits his sentencing date.

His attorney, Christopher Gioe of Hauppauge, declined comment.
