MASTIC, NY — The Blizzard is expected to drop this winter.

Construction crews are putting the finishing touches on Long Island's newest Dairy Queen in Mastic, and it is projected to open on Dec. 31, a representative for the company said Thursday. The date could be sooner or later depending on the construction process, the rep said. It is unclear whether the restaurant plans a grand opening celebration.

Brookhaven Town Councilman Dan Panico announced the location was in the works in a Facebook update to his constituents in the 6th Council District back in January, captioning a photo of the popular ice cream treat, the Blizzard, saying, "blizzards are coming to our area."

The popular franchise is best known for its tasty burgers, fries, and cheese curds - not to mention its ice cream treats, which include not only Blizzards but also shakes and signature cakes. The first Dairy Queen opened in 1940 in Joliet, IL.
