Here are the top 3 stories in Shirley-Mastic today:
- Smith Point County Park is one of many county parks and beaches across Long Island that will be receiving free sunscreen dispensers. This public health initiative was started by former Legislator Susan Berland and Legislator Kara Hahn back in 2018 to help raise awareness for and prevent against skin cancer. Catholic Health has donated enough to continue to sponsor the dispensers for the next three years. (Smithtown Matters)
- The "red flag" law has recently become more widely used throughout Suffolk County, especially by the police. The law enables law enforcement, school officials, parents, and now health care workers to let authorities know if someone plans to use a firearm in a way that would endanger themselves or others. - In partnership with the Town of Smithtown Animal Shelter, the Suffolk County Police have created the Adopt with a Cop initiative. The Suffolk County Police will help showcase adoptable dogs on social media in an effort to promote adoption. (tbrnewsmedia.com)
