Man Found With Gunshot Wound Dies After Car Crashes In Shirley: Police

After his vehicle had struck a pole and fence, first responders found a gunshot wound to his leg, Suffolk police said.

SHIRLEY, NY — A Shirley man was found with a gunshot wound to his leg died after his vehicle careened into a pole on Wednesday, Suffolk police said.

Daniel Johnston was driving a 2021 Chevrolet southbound in the northbound lanes of William Floyd Parkway, near Rugby Drive, when his vehicle struck a pole and fence at around 8 p.m., police said, adding that when first responders arrived, they found Johnston had been shot.

Johnston, 32, of Shirley, was taken by Mastic Beach Ambulance to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue where he was pronounced dead, police said.
