LI School Bus Driver, 71, Caught With Child Pornography: Police

Police say they seized items from his home including cell phones, tablets, laptops, hard drives, and other media storage devices.

MASTIC BEACH, NY — A Mastic Beach man arrested after he was caught with child pornography was a school bus driver for the William Floyd School District, a spokesperson for the district told Patch.

Guenther Mayrhofer, 71, of Mastic Beach, was arrested Thursday and charged him with promoting a sexual performance by a child, New York State police said.

"He is an employee of First Student Transportation who has driven for the district," the William Floyd School District representative said. "First Student is the district’s large bus contractor. The moment we learned of his arrest, he was decertified as a driver in our district."

According to New York State police, investigators from the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation began an investigation into the possession of child pornography based on a cyber tip generated by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Program.

On Thursday, August 15, the Troop L computer crimes unit, community stabilization unit, forensics investigative unit, along with the NYSP BCI, executed a search warrant and arrested Mayrhofer..

Police said they seized items from Mayrhofer’s residence including cell phones, tablets, laptops, hard drives, and other media storage devices, such as SD cards and USB drives.

Mayrhofer was processed at the state police barracks in Riverside; he was charged with six counts of promoting a sexual performance by a child, a felony' and six counts of possession of a sexual performance by a child, a felony, police said.

Mayrhofer was awaiting arraignment Friday at Suffolk County First District Court, police said.
