LI Man Gets 13 Years For 'Incomprehensible' Shooting Sparked By Fight Over Lost Puppy: DA

"This defendant did not care who or what the shots of his illegal gun struck when he pulled the trigger.": DA Ray Tierney

RIVERSIDE, NY — A Mastic Man was sentenced Tuesday to 13 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision for his involvement in an August 2022 shooting in Shirley, Suffolk District Attorney Ray Tierney said.

The evidence at trial established that on Aug. 14, 2022, at around 5:15 p.m., Tyriek Corbin, 24, began arguing with two people who were in a vehicle searching for a lost French Bulldog puppy on Lockwood Drive in Shirley, prosecutors said.

The argument escalated to the point that Corbin briefly went inside of a home on Lockwood Drive before returning with a loaded firearm, moments later, according to prosecutors.

He then fired the gun at the vehicle containing the two people who were searching for the lost puppy, as well as multiple times at the vehicle as the driver tried to drive it away, striking it three times, prosecutors said.

Nobody was injured during the shooting, however, the vehicle sustained ballistics damage, according to prosecutors.

“The fact that this defendant fired shots on a residential street following a discussion about the
search for a lost puppy, is incomprehensible and will not be tolerated here in Suffolk County,” Tierney said. “This defendant did not care who or what the shots of his illegal gun
struck when he pulled the trigger. This defendant could have seriously injured or killed someone,
and now will spend time in prison for his violent crime.”

Corbin was found guilty on April 11 of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
