- Mastic Christmas Tree Lighting is on Dec. 8 at the Village Park at Elder Drive and Neighborhood Road. This event is one of the must-go in the area during the holidays. The lights will be turned on at 6 p.m. (Village Of Mastic Beach)
- Former NY Police Officer, Michael Valva, has been found guilty of the death of his 8-year-old son, Thomas Valva. He now faces 25 years in prison. Thomas died from hypothermia in 2020 after being left overnight in an ice-cold garage in January. The witness testified that Thomas was physically and verbally abused for months before his death. - A Winter Wonderland Festival will be set up only five miles away from Shirley! Center Moriches Chamber of Commerce announced the return of the holiday event that gathers vendors, music, holiday characters and more! The magic starts at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 11. (Moriches Chamber of Commerce)
- New York Primary Elections Day is on Tuesday, November 8, and the New York Governor candidates were campaigning full force Friday. - Patch recognizes local athlete hero, Mason, nominated by his coach, Rick. According to his friends and community members who know him, Mason is an outstanding student who helps children with special needs. (Patch)
- Various restaurants near the Shirley-Mastic area are participating in the Long Island Fall Restaurant Week Nov. 6-13.
