Rotary Club Honors WFHS Student Of The Month

Senior Lauren Simonetti was named the "Robert Guerriero Rotary Student of the Month" for January.

The William Floyd School District recently welcomed members of the Rotary Club of Shirley and the Mastics to recognize William Floyd High School senior Lauren Simonetti as the “Robert Guerriero Rotary Student of the Month” for January.

School personnel describe Lauren as the embodiment of the ideal William Floyd student. She is a member of the Foreign Language Honor Society, the Art Honor Society and Student Government, all while challenging herself with five advanced placement courses and excelling academically. She is also a community-minded individual, who has worked to create art for fundraisers, distribute holiday cards to senior care facilities, participated in events to support cancer awareness and research, and assisted with the school’s adopt-a-family drives this past holiday season. She also regularly makes various donations to support local groups and charities within the community.

Lauren has attended William Floyd schools K-12 including William Floyd Elementary School and William Floyd Middle School.

This ceremony was attended by district and school officials, including Kevin M. Coster, superintendent of schools; Philip Scotto, principal, William Floyd High School; Carol Janowicz, Spanish teacher, William Floyd High School; family members; and Rotary Club members Dr. Fred Miller, Dr. Paul Casciano and Lynda Zach.

The Robert Guerriero Student of the Month Award is named in honor of former Board of Education vice president Robert Guerriero and longtime Rotarian, who passed away in October 2022.
