- The Town of Brookhaven discovered several private boats on the New York State Dept. of Transportation property in Shirley. The site is located at the end of Maple Avenue and is visible from Sunrise Highway. According to the Town of Brookhaven, the lot is littered with at least 20 boats. The town wrote tickets and had a few of the boats on neighboring town property removed. (LI Advance)
- Elementary school students across the William Floyd district made Thursday, Feb. 10 the 100th day of school for the 2021-22 school year! Students participated in fun activities including dressing as 100-year old versions of themselves, writing about their future selves, participating in counting lessons, building various structures to hold 100 items of something, and learning about 100 ways to be kind. - A Social Worker will be at the MMS Community Library on Feb. 16, at 5 p.m. to help residents who are struggling with locating resources for housing, financial assistance, familial/custodial issues, substance abuse programs, and mental health providers. - A GoFundMe page has been created to help the family of a mother of three killed in a drunk driving crash. The donations will be used to ship her remains to El Salvador so her family will be able to give her a funeral in her homeland. (Patchogue Patch)
- Nearby News: Residents in East Islip wants to prevent a local bowling alley from being turned into a senior living facility. The community considers the bowling alley a landmark and one of the few spots in town the kids go in the neighborhood. A petition is out with 900 signatures. (News12)
