Here are the top three stories in Shirley-Mastic today:

  1. A 17-year-old boy was arrested in connection with a violent rape and home invasion in Mastic Beach. On Friday, Suffolk County police reported the teenager was arrested for his involvement in the attack on Apr. 19; a 14-year-old boy had been previously arrested in the case. According to investigators, two teenagers broke into the home of the 23-year-old victim, allegedly raping her, stabbing and slashing her, then escaping with cash and belongings.(CBS New York)
  2. Two women have been arrested and charged with selling illegal fireworks at a Mastic store. According to the Suffolk County Police Department, Seventh Precinct crime section officers responded to the Smokes R Us shop on Poospatuck Lane following community complaints. Police found 250 cases of fireworks, valued at over $100,000, on shelves and in storage. (Shirley-Mastic Patch)
  3. Thirty-three students from William Paca Middle School, William Floyd Middle School, and William Floyd High School were selected to perform at the Suffolk County Music Educators Association (SCMEA) All-County ensembles.
