William Floyd Football Shuts Out Brentwood In Playoffs

The No. 2 ranked William Floyd Colonials shutout No. 7 Brentwood by a score of 42-0 in the opening round of the Suffolk County Division I playoffs. Led by head coach Paul Longo, the victory was the Colonials eighth overall this season (8-1), and cemented their spot in the Division I semifinals on Saturday, November 13, as they host No. 3 Commack at the Lincoln Avenue Sports Complex. These two teams met in September with the Colonials pulling out a 24-21 victory over the Cougars.

On offense, the Colonials were led by star running back Dylan Harris, who totaled 60 yards and three touchdowns on just seven carries. Harris now has 19 touchdowns this season, leading all Suffolk County running backs. Harris also eclipsed 1,000 rushing yards this season. Sonny Mayo also played a great game, as his 51-yard touchdown run on William Floyd’s opening drive set the tone for the game. He finished with 83 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback LaDuke Harris was also effective in the run game, scrambling for 78 yards on six carries.

Defensively William Floyd swarmed Brentwood all game long. The Colonials’ relentless pass rush led to their secondary securing four interceptions in the game, two by Caden Lesiewicz and one each for Sonny Mayo and Krishmar Powell. Lesiewicz also had two batted passes to go along with his interceptions. Mike Turner led the Colonials with six tackles. Dylan Harris also made great contributions on defense, as he registered five tackles, including one for a loss.

The Colonials’ quest for a 14th Suffolk County Championship and 6th Long Island Championship is off to a great start.
