William Floyd Learning Center Students Visit WFHS Barbering Academy
Younger students learned about the latest techniques in hair cutting, styling, facial-hair grooming, shampooing and more.

William Floyd Learning Center students recently participated in a hands-on educational workshop hosted by the William Floyd High School Barbering Academy. The younger students learned all about the latest techniques in hair cutting, styling, facial-hair grooming, shampooing and more! Some even volunteered to get their hair cut from a barbering student. It was a wonderful opportunity for the Learning Center students to see one of the many great career and technical education offerings at William Floyd High School and for the barbering students to gain valuable experience in their field!

About the William Floyd High School Barbering Academy
Barbers are in high demand! Students have the opportunity to get an up-close and realistic look inside the industry, from the traditional barbershop to the expanding, modern barbering industry. Cutting and styling techniques, facial grooming, shaving techniques, shampoos, rinses, and conditioning treatments are just a few of the skills students learn from master barbering instructor, Cara Cliffe. Additionally, students learn the business and communication skills needed to operate their own business. Successful completion of the program prepares students to take the New York State Licensing exam. Students must pass industry assessment in order to receive this endorsement on diploma.

The William Floyd High School CTE program is thriving and in full swing, offering eight CTE program academies in a variety of interest areas, as well as five CTE pathways in business and technology. Graduation pathways include Accounting, Architecture, Business Management, Engineering, and Microsoft Office Specialist. CTE academy offerings include Automotive, Barbering, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Home Design & Carpentry (with electrical and plumbing), Medical Assisting, and the two newest programs, Marine & Motorsports and Certified Personal Trainer & Nutritionist. William Floyd High School CTE is helping to build the skills necessary for students to be career and college ready and have the extra skills and know-how they can take with them throughout their lives.
